cottage in cumbria with new never paint again exterior wall coating

Textured exterior wall coatings renovate this Cumbrian cottage and protect it from the harsh weather.

Here is another exterior wall coating contract just completed by one of our teams. This house was a cottage in Cumbria, and the owners wanted a long term decorating solution that would not break the bank.

We used both of our wall coating systems on this property, “Never paint again” textured wall coatings, and “Wetherdry” transparent damp proofing coating.

This house is now maintenance free for 20 years, but take a look at some of the work we did below.

The cottage was located in an area that “get’s the weather” so they didn’t just want a fancy paint job, their house needed protection against the weather.

Mix and match, using 2 different types of wall coating to weatherproof a house.

This cottage in Cumbria needed a repaint and weather protection so we used a NEVER PAINT AGAIN coloured wall coating for the existing pebbledashed areas, and a super hydrophobic clear coating for the stone work.

As you can see, the house didn’t really look its best, which is obviously why we were called in.

In an exposed area such as this, normal masonry paint will only last a year at most, but the exterior wall coating that we used on this house lasts for over 20 years, guaranteed.

The wall coating process explained.

While yes we are essentially painting the outside of a house, we differ greatly in method from your local painter and decorator insofar as we spent the majority of our time at your home doing repairs to the house and then masking up doors and windows to prevent any mess.

Although we paint all types of buildings, we specialise in painting cottages up an down the UK.

Once the repairs are done, such as fixing cracked walls, or replacing loose or missing render/pebbledash and so on, we apply a cement bonded slurry coating to the walls and allow to dry.

We then hand apply a weatherproof primer coating, and then finally we spray the top coat of Wethertex MP44, the UK’s most durable wall coating.

This meticulous approach ensure also that you never need to find anyone for damp proofing house walls as it’s already been done using our wall coating system.

Unlike paint, we use an all weather coating that repels all kinds of rain, frost, snow, you name it.

Here we can see the wall prepared for the wall coating to be applied

The main reason people call us to get their pebbledash painted is the fact that our wall coating system is especially good with covering pebbledash.

This is because it is sprayed on, and very thick, in fact much thicker than masonry paint, meaning it covers all the bumps and undulations of a heavily textured exterior wall, something that masonry paint will never ever achieve.

If this wall was painted with normal masonry paint it would look awful

The main benefits of having your house exterior painted with a wall coating

  • No fading, chipping, cracking or peeling
  • Resists rain, snow, dirt, mould and pollution
  • Lowers your home heating bills, saving money.
  • A 20 year written guarantee
  • Conceals cracks, scruffy pebbledash and uneven walls.
  • Cures mould, condensation and penetrating damp.
  • Never fades, with beautiful shades, textures and colours.
  • Stops erosion, cracks, flaky paint, damp and mould.

Paint will not give you any of the above.

In addition, we noted earlier that the house had 2 different types of wall coating, the one we used on the stone was our clear damp proof wall coating which unlike products such as Thompsons waterseal, this does not leave a sheen on the surface of the wall, it soaks right in and forms an impenetrable barrier against damp.

You can see during the preparation stage, the painted areas have the primer on, and the top areas of natural stone had been treated with our damp proof coating although unfortunately its very hard to demonstrate it as it is transparent!

Once all the work had been completed, we removed the masking paper and dust sheets and cleaned the entire site so it was cleaner than when we arrived.

The house will now not need any maintenance externally, nor any repainting, for over 20 years, guaranteed.

This is how the house looks now, after all the work we did, and totally free of repainting for 20 years

The process is not as expensive as you may think, and you save a lot of money in the long term not having to get someone in to repaint your house every year.
