The benefits of Tex Cote Cool Wall exterior wall coating in reducing aircon costs. A comparison between British and American Wall Coatings

We are well known for providing exterior wall coatings in the UK which reduce home heating bills, and keep our terrible British weather at bay, but did you know in hot countries/states there are wall coating systems which keep a house COOL and reduce air conditioning costs?

I myself have lived in a hot country before and I can tell you that keeping a house cool is far more expensive that heating a home.

We can also learn some Americanisms that are not in use in the UK, even though apparently we speak the same language!

We used this page to COMPARE exterior wall coatings in the USA, with wall coatings here in the UK and found lots of similarities.

In our research we found an exterior wall coating system in the USA which keeps houses cool, so we decided to do a product review, although please note that we are NOT affiliated with them and have not been asked or commissioned to write this. Thank you, now lets learn about coolwall.

The Benefits of TexCote Cool Wall Coating For Homes in Hot Countries

CoolWall is a registered trade mark and we use it as part of this product review, all rights to the name exist with TexCote Inc. and we do not claim ownership.

A cooling wall coating is an excellent way to keep the inside of your home as comfortable as the outdoors.

Besides the fact that it reflects heat, the product also reduces cooling costs, and it can earn you LEED credits. (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification), which in the USA is a bit like the Energy saving trust.

These are just a few of the benefits of Tex Cote we found.

This wall coating Reduces cooling costs

TexCote Coolwall is a revolutionary, environmentally friendly exterior coating system that enables homeowners to reduce cooling costs and enjoy the benefits of a lower interior and exterior temperature.

TexCote Coolwall is able to reflect heat without altering colour, and is extremely durable.

TexCote Coolwall is an excellent choice for homes that are located in high-heat regions.

In fact, TexCote Coolwall has been shown to reduce the surface temperature of exterior walls by as much as 40 degrees.

TexCote Coolwall offers a limited manufacturer’s lifetime warranty that protects the coating for as long as the home is occupied. It is also very resistant to fading.

Homeowners who install TexCote Coolwall will experience a significant reduction in cooling costs.

TexCote COOLWALL is made of a thin primer, a moisture-proof barrier, and a highly reflective paint film. This combination ensures that TexCote COOLWALL will never flake or crack.

Additionally, TexCote COOLWALL can be applied to almost any surface.

TexCote COOLWALL has also been proven to reduce the temperature inside a home by up to 20 degrees.

Moreover, TEX*COTE(r) COOLWALL(r) is a cost-effective alternative to traditional exterior house paint. With its unique ability to reflect the sun’s heat, TexCote(r) COOLWALL(r) can provide energy savings of up to 21% overall.

Another great feature of TexCote COOLWALL(r) is that it can be applied over existing coatings. However, it is a good idea to use a professional to install the coating.

The TEX*COTE(r) products offer a variety of patented architectural coatings.

They are also manufactured with post-industrial recycled content to increase sustainability.

Using TEX*COTE(r) on your home not only saves you money, but it may even increase your property’s value. TEX*COTE(r) can help you earn LEED credits (see explanation above)

TexCote Coolwall can help you cut down on the cost of air conditioning, as well as reduce radar signatures according to info we found online, and increase your home’s overall safety, although why Americans are bothered about radar is beyond us!

Using TEXCote on your home is a smart decision for your family’s comfort and financial health.

The wall coating system actively reflects heat

If you live in hot areas in the USA, such as Nevada, Florida, California, etc., Tex Cote cool wall coating may be the answer to your heating and cooling needs. With its superior fade resistance, it will keep your home looking good for many years to come.

It is also an affordable solution that will help you save on your energy costs.

The TexCote Coolwall coating is available in more than 500 colours, and it can be applied to bare or coated surfaces. In addition, it has been proven to reduce the surface temperature by 40 degrees Fahrenheit

Personally I have seen their wall coating colour charts (or “color” for our American followers!) and it’s an impressive range of colours to choose from, far more than any British wall coating company offers, including ourselves.

Another advantage of TexCote is that it provides you with a weathershield.

This means that you do not have to worry about cracks forming in your stucco (rendered) walls or paint flaking. Additionally, you can choose a darker colour, which will prevent fading.

Another benefit of TexCote is its ability to improve the solar reflectivity of your house.

This can result in lower air conditioning bills and increase the value of your home.

invisible-insulation

One of the best things about TexCote is that it can be used on metal roofs, which can give you the same energy efficiency benefits as Coolwall. Even more, it has mould and mildew resistant properties.

This is where our wall coating product differs as we do not apply it to metal, only masonry.

In addition, TexCote can reduce your energy costs by up to 21%.

This is because it absorbs heat, then reflects it away. That’s a lot less energy you’ll need to operate your HVAC system, which is a major savings!

(For our British followers, HVAC refers to Heating, Ventilation and air conditioning)

To get the most out of your TexCote Coolwall, you should have it installed by a professional. You should also consider how often your coating needs to be refreshed. Replacement intervals will depend on the type of building materials and the climate in which your home is located.

TexCote cool wall coating can be used on a variety of surfaces, and its durability is unrivalled. It can last up to ten times longer than ordinary paint, and it’s even more resistant to fading.

They say that TexCote Lasts a lifetime. It does NOT, but it lasts a very long time anyway.

Americans will believe anything!

TexCote Coolwall is an elastomeric coating that has many benefits for homeowners.

It helps reduce the heat inside and out of the home, which can make it more comfortable.

The material is also durable and can be applied by professionals. This coating can last for years and is designed to increase the value of your home.

TexCote Coolwall is a paint that can be applied to the exterior of your house to provide protection from UV rays, rain, and other weather conditions.

This is of course where it starts to sound similar to our exterior wall coatings. They do protect against hot sun, but we are in the UK so we don’t get a lot of that, but they sure beat paint in resisting rain and stormy weather.

The product can be applied with a commercial grade sprayer or with a brush. In addition to reducing the amount of energy your home consumes, it also provides added curb appeal.

Our exterior wall coatings can only be applied with a special spraying machine.

When you apply TexCote Coolwall, you can select from a wide variety of colours to enhance your home’s overall appearance.

These colours not only help preserve the colour of your house, but they also help reduce the fading effect that can occur over time. As a result, your home will maintain its colour and appeal for a long time.

TexCote Coolwall provides a lifetime warranty. If your paint peels, chips, or flakes, TexCote will replace it for free. Also, this product is made with post-consumer recycled content.

I am not sure if we ever would want to promise a “lifetime warranty” here in the UK, that seems too good to be true and should be more carefully worded.

Another benefit of TexCote Coolwall is that it is a heat-reflective coating that can reduce the amount of heat inside your home. This means that you will be using less electricity and air conditioning.

TexCote is a great way to improve the value of your home and save you money in the long run.

However, it can also be costly to have it installed. You need to find a licensed contractor to install the product, and if you live in America, you can do this by going to texcote.com

NOTE: DO NOT contact us for this product as we do not sell it.

While TexCote Coolwall does cost more than other paints, it pays for itself in the long run.

The company offers a limited manufacturer’s lifetime warranty that covers your home for as long as you own it. TexCote is a good choice for homes in hot climates and regions where changing weather can be unpredictable.

Contributes to LEED credits (America’s version of the energy saving trust)

American exterior wall coating wall coating companies appear to be a lot more focussed on the environment than here in the UK.

The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification system is a program for evaluating and rating buildings. It’s designed to reduce emissions, improve energy efficiency, and promote the economic vitality of communities.

Whether you’re building a new home or renovating a home, the LEED process is a step-by-step approach that addresses the structure, materials, planning, and construction of a building. In addition, a LEED certified building can promote the health of the community and local environment.

For example, LEED credits are given for a variety of water-saving systems.

Buildings that use less water can reduce fuel consumption. If you’re able to reduce your water usage, you can also avoid paying for water treatment and reduce your total operational GHG footprint.

A total operational GHG footprint refers to an American scheme to reduce emissions and our carbon footprint,  and stands for “Greenhouse gas protocol”

To help you choose the best strategies for reducing your building’s impact on the environment, a life cycle assessment is essential. Life cycle assessment accounts for the entire carbon footprint of a building, including all its emissions.

By targeting LEED principles from a total impact perspective, you can easily erase the carbon footprint of an existing building.

For example, LEED evaluators will give extra points for projects that recycle indoor potable water, limit background noise, and create air quality management plans. They will also award bonus points for projects that encourage physical activity and reduced transportation.

Another LEED credit that can help reduce the environmental impacts of a building is exterior open space. This credit helps build healthy communities, enhances water quality, and encourages social interaction.

The USGBC awards bonus points to projects that encourage physical activity. Some examples include biking, canoeing, walking, and birding.

The LEED Resilient Design pilot program is designed to address vulnerabilities to disasters. It ensures that the design team is aware of any potential risks and is prepared to respond.

Construction and demolition waste are two additional LEED credits that can reduce your building’s impact on the environment. These credits can help delay the need for new landfill facilities. They can also help preserve resources for future generations.

To obtain LEED certification, a project manager must meet certain prerequisites. One of those requirements is that the project uses renewable energy.

Please note this page is a product review ONLY, we do NOT offer this system and we were not paid any inducement by texcote to publish this. If you live in the USA and wish to find out more, please visit their website at www.texcote.com

Unfortunately it seems they don’t really care too much about updating their website, and their twitter social media has not been updated for many years, strangely, so it has been difficult to get up to date information about the product.

In summary

Whilst this page has been handy as a comparison tool between British and American Wall coatings, it must be put into context as wall coatings are offered in different countries all round the world, the system is often specifically designed for that country’s climatic conditions.

Our wall coatings keep the heat IN, but in hot countries, the system is designed to keep the heat OUT (!)

Our own wall coatings can help in cooling your home as they have reflective properties but the product we review here goes far beyond that and is ideal if you live a hot place.

As I mentioned at the start, I used to live in a hot country, and keeping the house cool is a lot more expensive than trying to heat a home here in the UK.

So it seems, on paper at least, that CoolWall would be a wise investment which would end up paying for itself many times over.

Just the same as our wall coating systems which eventually pay for themselves in having lower heating bills and no damp.

Remember we do NOT offer this system, this page is a product review only. For more information contact texcote.com

PS here is a bonus video explaining coolwall far batter than I ever could, although bear in mind the video is nearly 10 years ago and typically “cheesy” for the USA market.
