A house in torpoint with a new exterior wall coating in white

Clean, fresh white rendering, for this terraced house in Torpoint, Cornwall

In the course of our day to day work we get to work on a variety of houses, big and small.

Some jobs are very challenging, and some jobs, for us anyway, are relatively straight forward, and this is one of those.

This page shows the work we did to a terraced house in the town of Torpoint, in Cornwall.

Some jobs for us can be very challenging but this one proved quite simple for us to do after all it was just the front of a house and nothing more.

This is what we did to repair and weatherproof a Victorian terraced house.

The house itself was probably about 130 years old or so, and had fared well as with most Victorian homes they were solidly built, unlike modern houses.

As it’s one of the smaller jobs we have done of late, there is not really much to show you, so I will try and make this article as brief as I can.

This is what the house looked like on the day we started work.

It didn’t look too bad I suppose, but as that is masonry paint, and the house is located not only in a coastal area, but also a main road, it will need repainting each and every year, but not with our exterior wall coating system, which lasts upwards of 20 years!

Yes, that is 2 decades of not paying a decorator, which long term, saves a fair bit of money, and hassle too.

However, once we scraped the old paint off, which was surprisingly easy, we found a fair few cracks and small patches of hollow render, which we had to remove and replace.

A local painter and decorator would NOT do any of that, they would just turn up, slap some cheap paint on the walls and pester you to pay them in cash pound notes. (Please note we do NOT do “cash” jobs so don’t ask)

It also means that he or she knows you will have to call them back again next year to do it again as the paint will not last.

Underneath all that old masonry paint, we found many defects hiding away as local decorators never do a thorough job.

Many homeowners think their house exterior looks nice, but little do they know what lies beneath, in most cases, it shocks them as to how bad their house really is.

The walls were full of cracks!

Once all the repairs had been done, we masked up the windows and laid dustsheets down to avoid any mess or paint splats.

We then hand applied a weatherproof primer across the entire elevation.

When we spray paint a terraced house we also take good care of the adjoining homes too so no mess is ever made.

Once we set up our spray pump and mix the required coating, the final part of applying the top coat is the fastest stage of the job, but it requires skill and experience, this is is not a DIY job that you could do yourself.

Once the wall coating is applied, we guarantee that for 20 years, the paint on the house will not fade, crack, chip or peel and this home will STAY looking as white as this for 2 decades into the future.

We don’t plan on seeing this customer again until the year 2043 (If I am still alive by then!)

The finished product! A lovely, bright white terraced house.

Getting a quote or estimate to have your house weather protected and painted with our wall coating system is very easy and painless.

Simply call us on 0800 970 4928. The lines are open Monday to Saturday, during office hours, with a voicemail service available outside of those times.

After you have filled out the secure form and sent it, you can enhance your application by emailing us some exterior photos of the house, to info@neverpaintagain.co.uk

We would have a brief chat with you to find out more about your house, and the type of work that you would like to be done. If you have sent us photos, we can also give you a rough idea of cost over the phone.

If that is all acceptable, in most cases we make a convenient appointment to come and meet you at your house.

We would bring samples and colour charts with us, measure the wall area of your house, and present you with a written quote.

If you want to go ahead, you can tell us there and then to get things moving, or you can think about for a while, it’s your house, not ours, and it’s YOUR decision, not ours. We do not employ salesmen.

To put this into context, here’s a bit of handy information about Torpoint.

We interviewed a local man, a friendly neighbour of the customer, whilst the works were going on and he gave us a fascinating insight into the town.

(dictated from an audio recording)

“Ah, Torpoint, my dear friend. I’ve been fortunate enough to call this charming town my home for many years, and let me tell you, it’s a place unlike any other. Nestled on the banks of the River Tamar in the breathtaking county of Cornwall, Torpoint is a haven of tranquillity, community, and natural beauty.

One of the things that makes Torpoint truly special is its rich maritime heritage. As you stroll along the waterfront, you can’t help but feel a deep sense of connection to the sea.

The river has always been the lifeblood of this town, from its days as a bustling port to the present, where it provides a constant source of inspiration and livelihood for the locals.

The people of Torpoint are warm, welcoming, and fiercely proud of their town.

You’ll find a strong sense of community here, where neighbours look out for one another and lend a helping hand when needed. There’s a palpable camaraderie that permeates the streets, and it’s not uncommon to see friends and families gathering at the local pubs, sharing stories and laughter late into the evening.

Torpoint may be small in size, but it’s big on natural beauty.

The surrounding landscapes are simply breath-taking. From the rugged cliffs and golden beaches to the rolling green hills that stretch as far as the eye can see, every corner of Torpoint is a postcard-worthy vista.

Nature lovers will revel in the abundance of outdoor activities, whether it’s exploring the nearby Bodmin Moor, hiking along the South West Coast Path, or simply enjoying a leisurely stroll through one of the many parks and gardens.

For those seeking a taste of history, Torpoint offers a treasure trove of fascinating stories.

The town is dotted with historic landmarks and architectural marvels that harken back to its past. One can’t help but be enchanted by the elegant Georgian and Victorian houses that line the streets, or the quaint cottages that seem frozen in time.

And of course, the iconic Torpoint Ferry, which has been ferrying passengers across the river for over a century, is a beloved symbol of the town’s heritage.

But perhaps my favourite aspect of Torpoint is its sense of serenity.

There’s a slower pace of life here, a chance to escape the hustle and bustle of the outside world and embrace a simpler, more fulfilling way of living.

Whether it’s watching the sun set over the river, breathing in the salty sea air, or savouring a delicious meal made with locally sourced ingredients, there’s a certain magic in the air that puts your mind at ease and allows you to truly appreciate the beauty of the present moment.

So, dear visitor, if you’re seeking a place that combines natural splendour, a strong sense of community, and a rich tapestry of history, look no further than Torpoint. Come, immerse yourself in its charm, and allow this little town to capture your heart, just as it has captured mine.”

“Bill” , a long term resident of Torpoint, was interviewed by Alex, in June 2023.
