Repainting the exterior walls of a bungalow in Essex, with a long life protective wall coating

Repainting the exterior walls of a bungalow in Essex, with a long life protective wall coating means the owners don’t have to pay anyone to repaint for 20 years.

Fact, not fiction. The happy owners of this charming bungalow now have no worries about getting a decorator in for the next 2 decades, but how do we do it?

How can we paint a house and ensure that it will not need any further work for such a long time?

Read on and I’ll tell you.

The problem with owning your own home, and wanting to look after it, is the need to maintain the exterior.

The walls of your house do far more than just hold the roof up, they provide security, shelter and, in most cases, warmth, and if these issues are not addressed regularly, problems can occur, usually expensive ones.

Here is how we repaired and painted a bungalow with extensive render cracks.

The big difference between ourselves and your traditional painter and decorator is the fact that we carry out repairs to the house before we apply paint.

Most decorators won’t do that, which is partly why their work only lasts around 2 years. Yep, they WANT to come back and repaint as it means more money for them.

Thankfully we are a bit more altruistic than that, we don’t WANT to see our customers for the next 20 years! Although it’s nothing personal.

Our wall coatings are a specially blended mix of resins and pigments, laboratory developed and tested, and used by architects, and as such, the wall coatings we use are specialist application only, using specialist equipment to apply them.

This bungalow was riddled with cracks in the rendering

All these had to be cut out and filled by the team before we carried out any painting.

Your local decorator will not do this.

As you can see from the above photos, the render was full of cracks, all around the house.

This was due to the fact that the rendering had not been protected because it only had masonry paint on it.

Masonry paint is only coloured water and offers zero protection from the weather.

Our wall coatings are resin-based, and weather resistant; they protect the walls from cracking, whilst also resisting damp and never fading.

The cracks kept on appearing the more we looked into the job

After all the cracks were repaired, we masked up the windows, as you can see, which prevented any mess and then we laid dust sheets down on all floors and grass areas.

The owners did not realise how bad their walls were until we started the job, and they were glad that such a skilled and competent team were on hand to sort the problems out without fuss.

This approach means that the paint stays where it should, on the wall, not on the floor.

We also mask up the pipes, the gutters, the doors etc.

Once the job is complete we just need to remove it and take it away, rather than spend days cleaning up overspray and mess.

We then hand painted a primer coating across the entire house and then allowed to cure.

This is usually overnight, so the next day we set up our spray machine and spray the wall coating onto the walls, making sure we get into every corner and nook, ensuring a uniform finish all the way around the house.

The repairs we carried out to the walls cannot be seen now it’s been repainted, something that a thinner coat, such as masonry paint, is unable to achieve.

We always pay special attention to repairs on any house painting work we do, and that can be clearly seen in the quality of work we post here on our website. Other exterior wall coating companies just scan in photos from brochures, or they try and steal them from our website!
