The mainstay of the painting work we do is often to terraced, 4 bed detached, semi’s and so on, but now and again we get the chance to paint somewhere that we can only dream of living in.
This grand brick-built English country home needed the exterior repaired and painted. The old walls were worn and in poor condition with flaky paint, cracked rendering and huge patches of dated and crumbling pebbledash.
This enormous home in stunning parkland, needed the exterior repaired and painted, which was a huge undertaking in itself.
A very big house in the country gets a new paint job!
The transformation of this Grand English country house with restored render repairs, brickwork cleaning and restoration, followed by the NPA wall coating system ……. is truly amazing and needless to say, the owners were absolutely delighted with the end result!
This particular house, in Dorset if I recall (?) was set in it’s own sumptuous grounds with not only the large manor house to deal with but also the staff quarters, stables, kitchens and so on, it all needed some major TLC.
Here are some “before” photos of a rendered and pebbledashed wall surface.
This is more or less what we started with.
Cracked rendering, damp coming in and huge pebble-dashed elevations that had been put on quite some time before world war 2.
The pebble dashed bits of wall were quite bad and the stones had come away.
This left the porous exterior wall surface exposed to the weather and letting dampness into the house, which in a historic home like this, could have been a disaster if it was not attended to.
A shot of the rear of the house and converted stable block
This large project also included the restoration of the stables and staff accommodation and on such a big painting and repair job, we ensured that minimal disruption, to a point, was caused to the owners.
Often on larger buildings we tend to do one section at a time.
Here is the rear showing the poor render
The house itself had various different exterior wall surfaces and each part had its own problems. The bricks were cracked, porous, suffered from efflorescence, and much of the pointing was missing.
The rendered areas had much faded paint, cracks and hollow sections of render, again, letting in damp to the house.
The exterior walls had a “grubby” appearance and required cleaning.
We treated this house with our spray applied exterior wall coating system and now the exterior will NOT need any redecoration or repair for the next 20 years!
We don’t only do grand houses either!
Nope, you don’t have to live in Downton Abbey to benefit from our long life weatherproof wall coatings, they are NOT expensive and are suitable for all different types of house and wall finish, plus they are available in all sorts of colours.
Here is a photo which shows the state of the pebbledash before we started work.
So what did it look like afterwards?
Here are some nice photos to show you what a change we made to the appearance and the lifespan of this historic home.
Here is another view of the house, this time showing the stable area we looked at earlier in the article.
And finally here is a nice photo of the front of the house after we had done all the render repairs, fixed and replaced the dashed areas and applied an external wall painting system to the whole house.
This is now fully guaranteed for at least 20 years, with 3rd party insurance cover too, meaning that the owners now have no more maintenance or repainting needed for the next 2 decades!
