Dealing with streaky paintwork
How do I deal with streaky paintwork?
We love being asked questions and here’s one a site user emailed us with, from America.
“I have a new house construction. We have new Sheetrock, new drywall. We sprayed a Porter PPG Primer on the walls and ceilings. We then sprayed on a Sherwin-Williams Visible solutions on the ceiling. We have a lot of streaks and roller mark or streaking even though we sprayed it on. Then we had Valspar Ceiling paint rolled on and after a total of 7 coats it is still streaky. Please help!”
As we don’t use or stock the paints they mention, we asked our experts. Here’s their suggestion for a perfect paint finish:
- Initially undercoat/primer first and keep your paint roller wet with paint not rolled dry. Professionals say each roller fill should cover about 6 square feet for top coats.
- If you put your first coat on east to west then alternate each other coat north/south etc. after that. That way you are covering your previous edges.
- Don’t apply too much pressure to the roller.
- Use good quality rollers.
……and if you still get stuck it maybe time to call in a specialist contractor or decorator!
