Painting over Wall coating with new colour

An exterior wall coating from Never Paint Again has many unique properties, one of which, obviously, is the fact you dont have to paint the wall again for up to 20 years! What if you get sick of the colour after 10 years? Should you have it painted over and what are the consequences?

Never paint again wall coatings are, as many people know, the best way to have your house painted, but not have to have it redone every year or two, but 10 years ago, your house with a pink wall coating may have been the “in thing” but what if you now want the wall white?

Its a common dilemma, after all if the wall coating on your house is still in good condition, which it should be, then why paint over it? Would that invalidate the guarantee?

Well in theory yes it would.

Normal masonry paint can be painted over most spray applied wall coatings quite easily, however if another coat of paint is OVER THE TOP of an exterior wall coating, this usually means the guarantee you have will be void, however there IS a way around this.

To change the colour of a wall coated house.

Many people know that our contractors are approved Andura installers, and if we painted over their product, the factory would not honour any warranty because we’ve covered over their product, so in a case where the owner, a previous customer of ours perhaps, wishes to change the colour, another Andura product must be specified, and applied by an approved andura installer, to keep warranties valid and to safeguard your peace of mind.

The two options for us in this case ARE:

1) Spray apply a wetter mix (less viscous) , fine textured coating to the walls, but even then, if you have a coarse texture on the wall already, this can make it even more coarse.

2) The second option is to apply, by hand or spray, a coat of Andura classic smoothÂ® onto the wall which is……” a single component, solvent borne acrylic protective and decorative paint coating ready for immediate site use.”

So as you can see, you CAN paint over a Never Paint Again Wall coating after so long, but only with the corerct product, and applied by approved installers.

All year round exterior wall coatings?

Dear NPA, I have a quick question for you. I would like to find out how much it costs to have my house rendered with one of your exterior insulated coloured render systems, but I will not have the funds to have the work carried out until the Late Autumn time, in fact just before winter. Can you do it then?

Hello Mrs Jones thanks for your email. I hope you don’t mind but I thought it would be a good idea to show this on our blog for others to see.

Winter is a difficult time for anyone who works outside and of course we, as the same with other exterior wall coating companies, do less work at that time of year due to shorter daylight hours and the weather.

Because our products are not water based, application during cold snaps is possible but there is a limit to that, but resin based wall coating have a much lower freezing point than masonry paint, (which is essentially coloured water.)

Rendering coatings during the winter is slightly different and when water is used, this is the time when sometimes we have to wait for the weather to warm up, so in answer to your question, if you would like your house rendered, and/or have an exterior wall coating to the outside walls, it is best to contact us before the onset of winter, although again, if you can call us nearer the time, we can come and take a look at the house and let you know how much it will cost, and also the timescale between placing an order, and us doing the work, you never know, we may be able to fit you in no problem and we may be lucky with the weather!

Price to paint outside of house

The question we get asked most often by our loyal readers is how much is it to paint the outside of their house?

Well exterior house painting and external wall coatings is what we do best of all so we are quite happy to carry on having emails just like this from our customers!

Dear NPA Never Paint again. I have a detached house in Greater Manchester, Trafford to be precise, and we have lived here now for about 10 years.

In that time, we have had the exterior of the place painted with Dulux paint, by a local decorator, 6 times in 10 years!

Now, altho we know the decorator quite well an to be fair he’s a nice old geezer, but all he has ever done, apart from one occasion after we had new windows along the back part of the house, is to paint and that is it, no repairs or anything.

He has now approached us to do it again, but we havent said yes yet, mainly because I am sick of paying him each year, the sum of 2,500 pounds. As you can tell x by 6, this is now 12 and a half grand!

(There is some damp coming in at the side too)

A wall coating comapny, (since vanished) quoted us 7,000 about 8 years ago to do the house with what looks like a similar stuff to what you lot do, and I have to say that I wish we had taken up his offer regardless of the fact that they have gone bust, the coating on the house would have at least saved me money. Hindsight eh? hahaha

Can you beat that price then? I know you could it for less than what I have paid over the past 10 years for painting, but can you beat 7 grand? Ok, i know it was 8 years ago and prices have gone up but if you can do it for roundabouts that price I would be happy to go ahead. A friend at work had his done by you last year and I must say you did a very good job.

Wall Dampness can be cured with weatherproof external coatings?

QUESTION FROM SITE USER: We seem to have dampness in our bedroom walls (upstairs), in 3 different places. Is this something that can you can cure with your wall coatings?

Hi Tom and thank you for your email. I took the liberty of putting this on the blog to see if anyone else could suggest another remedy as we are somewhat biased of course, in promoting our own products! (Sorry, cant help it!)

It sounds like you have PENETRATING DAMP in your walls. Please do NOT try and stop the damp internally until you have firmly ascertained where exactly on the outside, the damp is coming from.

Check your gutters outside, near to the area of damp. Are they cracked or even blocked with dirt or leaves? (If you need to examine them close up, only use a ladder with correct supervision and keep pets and kids away)

Look at the walls to see if there any cracks or patches of the wall that just “dont look right”. Make a note of them, in fact take some photos and email them to us and I will personally make sure you get a swift response.

What does a House painting quote entail?

Well, first and foremost and in most cases, we do need to visit the house in order to give an exact price (a quote) as opposed to an estimate, which is only a rough guide.

We take measurements of the wall surface area, then subtract the area of windows, doors and other areas not to be painted. We then survey the walls and note any points of concern, explaining what we would do in this case, for example if you had patches of hollow rendering, the surveyor would explain to you exactly what we do to repair the affected areas, and so on.

And then we work out the price for you on the spot!

If you would like a price, estimate or quote from Never Paint Again for rendering, coloured render or spray applied exterior wall coatings, but your house is not yet built or completed, we Can give you idea if you forward plans to us.

This of course saves everyone a lot of time, money and hassle if you want a quote for an exterior wall finish but …er….. the walls dont “exist” as yet! LOL!

You can submit plans and drawings to us by going to the CONTACT page and using the email link underneath the contact form.

How accurate would the rendering cost estimate be?

It depends really on how accurate the plans are, and if any modifications to the specification are to be made during the build stage. We would not however commit to a firm price until the house was actually constructed and our surveyors could analyse the property for themselves take their own measurements and prepare a fixed price quote for you in writing. We can also liaise with your project team and we take care of any planning applications or changes needed. Basically we offer a full “bespoke” exterior wall finishing service.

This can be left with you for up to 6 months and you just call us back when you are ready to have the rendering or coloured exterior wall insulated render applied.

This also applies to any house that is being rendered and then coated with a spray applied weatherproof paint coating. As long as we have some sort of commitment from you that you want us to do the work, we can take care of everything else, and……..
