We delve back into the archives again, to look at a painting and decorating job that we did in central Taunton, Somnerset, way back in 2001.
The house was a grade 2 listed regency town house in dire need of exterior work with some Smooth wall coatings.
We even painted the wooden doors and windows to finish the painting job off, a feat in itself since the huge sash windows were around 120 years old!
(Archived post from 2002)
After the smooth wall coating paint was applied, all the old features were picked out in a complementary colour. This project was completed in 2001
What are Wall coatings?
Weatherproof textured external coatings are like ultra durable long life paints which, when applied to your house, last for up to 20 years !
All year round application!
Ideal for exterior house walls made of brick, stone, smooth render and textured render, lime rendered walls, tyrolean walls, pebble-dash exteriors, “rough cast” spar dash etc.
We normally do a textured wall coating on houses but in this case, a smooth version without the bits of perlite was needed as it was a listed building AND was in a conservation area too, so rather than fall foul of the planning inspector we all thought that a smooth wall coating would be idea.
So what does a smooth wall coating look like up close?
A bit like this!
So once the colours had been chosen, and we had ordered the paint from the supplier, we got to work removing the old paint, filling in some cracks and carrying out some minor render repair work.
This is what we started with.
We took a few days on this property and had to be careful when working on it as the house was very old and it was listed. The couple who lived here had just come to live in the UK from Australia and were keen to get the house looking nice, quickly, and without fuss so they called us!
This is the house afterwards
As you can see period colours were chosen, something that Taunton Deane borough council told us to do.
