Paint, pebbledash or a one of those special external wall coatings?
There are so many choices as to what to have on the outside of your house, it frankly becomes boring for many and they just simply add paint to the outside, as that’s what everyone does yes?
…….er…….well no! ……..The thousands of happy home-owners that NEVER PAINT AGAIN have helped over the years would disagree!

But that’s quote enough about my opinion, what about YOU, the reader?
What do you want on your house? How much do you feel is a fair price to pay? Do you fancy a change of colour this year, or maybe you have had work done to the house and paint just won’t cover up the bad bits any more?
I think I may have the solution for you.

What exactly ARE External wall coatings?
They are a special thick paint-like coating, applied with a spraying machine and compressor, to more or less ANY wall surface, and despite looking exactly the same as paint, they last up to 20 years.
As with most other large property improvement or restoration projects, a very thorough inspection is made of what is on the wall right now.
If we find defects such as cracked bits, uneven wall surfaces, erosion, damp, we cure it, in fact we are quite pedantic about doing such a good job for our clients, most of the time spent at your home would be on the repairs rather than spraying the final top coat of coating.

We know all too well that an extensive preparation of the walls is the secret to a long-lasting outside wall finish.
Why should I have one of these coatings instead of paint?
I could write for days and days about the benefits of such a system, but as the info is already on the site, I would just be repeating myself and risking the wrath of Google! Again. (*ahem!)
Now, think carefully madam, what’s your answer…..?
To summarise, the benefits of having an external house coating system instead of masonry paint are: Long life (at least 15 years), damp proof (Cures penetrating damp), wall protection (Stops wall erosion), Lower heating bills (Cuts wind chill), and of course value for money (Only ONE application by our teams is needed every 15 years)
Is this an expensive service?
No not at all.
A good example is a job we did recently in Kent. The client wisely requested quotes from 4 separate coating companies, including ourselves.
We were not the cheapest, our quote coming in at a shade over £3,000, but the most expensive was a shocking £8,000!
The client told us that the salesman (not: NOT a surveyor, but a sales guy reciting a pre-worded script), then stayed for another 2 hours after “presenting” his price, slowly dropping the cost and giving various reasons why!
The man’s credibility in our clients eyes then went out the window.
Avoid people like this!
He also had a quote from a local and very reputable painter and decorator, whose quote came in at £2,500. Needless to say, despite the decorator being a nice fella and very honest, our client knew that if he chose him to paint the house, he would not get any form of warranty, and it would have to be done again, in 2 or 3 years, meaning another £2,500, plus inflation I would think.
So if our client had gone with the decorators quote, that would be £2500 (one paint job), then £3,000 (2nd job in 3 years time), then £4,000 9 years later, and then another £5000 in 15 years time! So looking long term, the client choosing the decorator, would have cost him in total around £15,000 on house painting in 15 years.
Seems a lot compared to the £3,000 our customer paid!
So, although in some, but not all, cases, our external wall coatings are a bit more expensive than paint, it doesn’t take very long to recoup that investment, plus you still enjoy all the other benefits a coating system brings including damp resistance, never fading, and a cessation of the problem of cold walls and wind chill.
Your decorator will NOT carry out anything but the most basic of repairs, filling the odd crack or scraping off a bit of loose paint. Our wall coating system includes a full refurbishment of the house walls before we apply our coating, and it’s all included in the price.
So what does an external coating look like?
Good question! As we tailor-make each coating for each individual client, we can’t have showrooms to display our work, so we often use before and after photos of houses, to show you exactly what we mean.
