Case study of a house we painted in Uttoxeter Staffordshire

front of house after external wall coating

This large extended semi detached house in Staffordshire, with a scored render wall surface had excessive flaky paint and hollow render.

The owner needed the services of the experts!

Here we explain what we did………..

This lovely houseĀ  had a wall surface sometimes known as textured render, which is where the operative applying the coat of render, scores or makes large sweeping marks in the render surface with his trowel.

This was an exterior wall surface that was very popular during the 1970’s and 1980’s

The house had not been painted for some time and was suffering from extreme flaking paint across the whole house.

This is the scene we found when we arrived in Staffordshire

Doesn’t look great does it?

Although this wasn’t a particularly old house, having been built, we think, in the 1960’s, the location in rural Staffordshire, not far from Uttoxeter, was in an exposed location and it was evident we would need to do quite a bit in order to get this house ready for painting.

This of course looked unsightly and the owners knew from previous experience that once the house was painted with normal masonry paint, it would need doing again the very next year!

Painting a house of this size also was not cheap, whatever system they were going to choose, so they wanted a long life, high quality wall finish so they did not have to have the decorators in ever year!

When we took a closer look, we could see the house needed some TLC and fast.

Just look at this mess.

This type of render is also known as patterned render or Spanish stucco as many homes in warmer climes end up having a finish like this as the hot weather dries the render too quickly to be smoothed out flat like normal render.

What we did to this house.

Our installation contractors, soon got to work on the house on this challenging Wall coating job in Staffordshire , removing the flaky and loose paint, filling in cracks and replacing patches of hollow render across all elevations.

Here we can see a photo of work in progress

As you can see from the photo we had removed the flaked paint and repaired the render. We then masked up the doors and windows and started applying the primer coat.

The next job was to spray apply the Wall coating to the walls by high pressure spray and here we have 3 images which show you what a massive change we made on the house.

The wall surface will now not need painting for at least the next 20 years!

And finally, remember the photo right at the top of the page, of the rear of the house?

Well, this is what the back part of the house looks like now!
